Sad news from the NBC community today as celebrated newsman Tom Brokaw revealed that he’s been diagnosed with bone marrow cancer. The 74-year-old Brokaw says he’s,

“Optimistic about the future.”

According to TMZ, Brokaw who is currently a special correspondent for NBC News, is reportedly diagnosed with multiple myeloma.

However, Brokaw remains positive saying,

“With the exceptional support of my family, medical team and friends, I am very optimistic about the future and look forward to continuing my life, my work and adventures still to come. I remain the luckiest guy I know. I am very grateful for the interest in my condition but I also hope everyone understands I wish to keep this a private matter.”

Many of us grew up watching Brokaw do it like no other on the NBC evening news back before there were two million and five cable channels and an internet to report information that competed for attention. He gave some of the most important newscasts of our lives and was instrumental at keeping calm among the nation at various times as well.
