This isn’t (completely) some gimmick for Musiq—err, Husel. This is about evolving with the times so that he can continue to give the people what they want! He’s admitted that he’s pretty much doing this to please the current taste of the masses and expand his range.

“I’m starting this whole new thing. I turn on the radio, and people seem to be feeling the kind of stuff that I’m doing as The Husel. The other brand (Music Soulchild) is R&B,” he told MadameNoire.com. “I’m the type of person who likes to entertain people based on what they’re saying entertains them, and right now this sound is what’s entertaining them. As an artist, songwriter and producer I sit back and listen and say, ‘Okay, if that’s what y’all like, I can do that.’”

Even though the singer thinks R&B is kind of struggling right now, he did not want to tinge his smoother persona with something a llittle harder. That’s why decided to come up with a whole new image.

Musiq explained, “It might not be something that you expect from me, which is why I didn’t want to compromise the other brand. If I’m going to do this, I feel it’s only right to start over. So far he’s come out with three different tracks as Husel:”Greatest,” “Generate” and “Grindin.’”

The tracks are housed on his mixtape, which comes with a mini manifesto that states, “The Husel is not a person, THE HUSEL is a state of mind. Everyone has their own interpretation of the hustle, this just happens to be mine.” Check out some of Husel’s tracks below.
